When Burdens are Overwhelming

Oswald Chambers has some good things to say again. I can't help but write them down and think it over.

He says, "We must recognize the difference between burdens that are right for us to bear and burdens that are wrong. We should never bear the burdens sin or doubt, but there are some burdens placed on us by God which he does not intend to lift off."

"If we set out to serve God and do his work but get out of touch with him, the sense of responsibility we feel will be overwhelming and defeating. But if we will only roll back on God the burdens he has placed on us, he will take away that immense feeling of responsibility, replacing it with an awareness and understanding of himself and his presence."

He goes on to say that we shouldn't try to separate ourselves from the burden God has given us. We should "put it over on to him and place yourself there with it."

Wise words. I wish someone had told me this about five years ago. I've definitely struggled with feeling like God has asked me to do something too big for myself. It's like Peter walking on water. As long as he kept his eyes on Jesus, he was fine. The moment he looked down and started to process just what it was he was doing he started to sink.

But my question is, how do you stay in that place of trusting in God? Since God was the one gave me the burden it seems natural to take it on and try to carry it. It's only when I realize that my head is nearly underwater that I cast the burden onto him. But then the cycle repeats itself. When will I learn?
